Committed for Better Business

Every once in a while I read someone’s claim that article marketing is dead. I used to think maybe it was true. But that’s so wrong!

Most of the time, these statements about the demise of article marketing are made by someone promoting a system or software that works in a way that is opposite to article marketing.

How I understand article marketing

Just to be clear, this is how I understand article marketing. It is the process of searching for information on a particular topic and presenting the findings in a way that is useful to your readers.

So the goal of article marketing is to inform and educate your audience.

become an authority

In the process of doing so, the writer will increase his position as an authority on his subject. If he writes more articles, he will continue to build his authority and gain exposure.

There are many writers who like to branch out into many niches and can successfully write on many topics.

Personally, I prefer to write about one or two niches that are of particular interest to me and where I have a real passion for the topic. One of them is the instant messaging niche.

Therefore, following the thought expressed above, I hope to inform and educate my readers about IM’s concerns. Currently, this would mean information on how to generate traffic to a blog or website.

Everybody needs traffic

Virtually all online marketers, regardless of their experience, struggle with generating traffic every day.

I think critics or doomsayers are wrong in that they don’t realize that for an article to be effective, it needs to be promoted, as suggested by the social media share buttons available right here at EzineArticles.

Invite your reader to your website

Of course, in the process of educating your readers, you also have the opportunity to invite them to your own website where you can continue the education and relationship building you started with the article.

This will allow the prospect to get to know you better, to build the all-important “know, like, and trust you” that is so necessary before you can hope to generate a sale.

So how do articles help you build your reputation and authority?

Suppose you write 10 articles on your main topic. He then posts an article here. You publish or “publish” an article on your blog. You post another article somewhere else. You publish another article as a guest blogger.

Then you take 2 or 3 of those 10 articles and turn them into YouTube videos.

Next, go to some leading forums in your niche and chat about your topic.

If you continue this activity for a few weeks, or better yet, two or three months, you will establish yourself as an authority in your field. Then, when someone searches for information on your topic, their name will appear.

And this will continue to happen in different sources of information, because you will be dominating your topic and your niche.

I want to be a specialist

That’s why I don’t write about everything under the sun. I don’t want to be a generalist. I want to be a specialist in a limited area of internet marketing. Currently that generates traffic to your blog. And even within traffic generation, I can be the “go to” person on using Facebook advertising to drive traffic.

That should also be your goal, to master your topic so that you can master your niche.

So article marketing is not dead… on the contrary, it should be the foundation on which you build your reputation, gain exposure, become known in your niche, until you become the “go to” person in your market.
