To renew your license, you’ll need to complete at least two continuing education credits every two years. You can also renew your license by completing your CE course on the last day of your birth month. However, your license will not be valid for two or three years if you’ve had it for less than one year. And you can’t use previous licensing periods for the renewal. And remember that any additional contact hours you’ve obtained aren’t valid for the renewal period.

In California, nursing CE requirements are different than in Colorado. Newly licensed nurses are exempt from CE requirements for the first renewal period, but they need to meet them after that. The number of CE hours varies from zero to 45 in some states. The renewal period for RNs ranges from annual to triennial.
