Dancers Makeup Kit Checklist:

A dancer’s makeup look is often determined by the choreographer and/or the venue of the performance.

Stage Performance: Ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, and contemporary dancers typically dance on a stage. Whether you’re a recital dancer, a competitive dancer, or a professional dancer, you’ll need to wear a darker, more intense ballerina makeup look than your average everyday street makeup. This is due to the intensity of the stage lights, the intensity of the costumes, and the distance between the performer and the audience.

Outdoor performance: Depending on your dance style, if you’re performing outdoors, your dancer’s makeup style can be much more understated. For example, although a ballerina’s stage makeup look often includes red lipstick, you might consider a more natural pink instead.

Ballroom Dance Floor – When you’re a ballroom dancer, you typically perform on a dance floor that is level with the audience and the lighting, while dramatic, is not as intense as stage lighting. However, a ballroom dancer’s makeup is often quite dramatic to accentuate the dramatic costumes and style of this genre.

Belly Dance Show: Belly dancers have a variety of performance venues: stages, restaurants, and open-air festivals. However, the makeup of belly dancers is much more adapted to the style of dance and costumes than to the type of place in which they perform. Their performance looks can range from the more natural and classic Cabaret Belly Dancers makeup to the dramatically artistic styles of Tribal Belly Dancers makeup.

Ideally, choose hypoallergenic/non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores), talc-free, and paraben-free products that are as natural in origin as possible and are effective. A ballerina makeup look needs to be worn for long periods of time and this can be very harsh on the skin, especially if it is sensitive or prone to breakouts. She doesn’t want products that make her skin look and feel horrible at the end of a performance weekend. There’s nothing that can make you more self-conscious than red, irritated skin on an acne-covered face.

Here is a list of what should be in your prom makeup kit for a fabulous performance makeup look:
